Mevion Medical Systems and RaySearch Laboratories hosted an educational webinar presenting treatment planning techniques for the HYPERSCAN Pencil Beam Scanning system and highlighting the unique benefits of the layer-by-layer MLC collimation. The webinar recording is now available on-demand.
The Clinical team from the Washington University School of Medicine joined forces with experts from the two companies discussing the development, application, and clinical experience of using Mevion’s proprietary Adaptive Aperture (AA) proton multi-leaf collimator (pMLC) with RayStation.Phil Broussard, Treatment Planning Specialist at Mevion, kicked off the webinar by providing insights into the design and benefits of the Adaptive Aperture pMLC. As the leaves dynamically adjust to create sharp penumbras at every energy layer, the AA delivers a more precise dose delivery and a better sparing of adjacent structures.
Martin Janson, PhD, Senior Product Manager Proton, at RaySearch followed by presenting the integrated Monte Carlo planning for HYPERSCAN within RayStation, which enables fast treatment planning with optimal MLC collimation for each energy layer.
Lastly, Prof. Tiezhi Zhang, PhD, and Michael Watts, CMD, Supervisor – Proton Therapy, at Washington University School of Medicine, shared their clinical experience using the HYPERSCAN PBS with the Adaptive Aperture pMLC for different indications, including brain, pelvic, lung, and breast cases, and demonstrated treatment planning techniques to achieve the best organ-at-risk (OAR) sparing.
